Highschool Informational Essay Examples

Highschool Informational Essay ExamplesHighschool informational essays are often a bit different from college essays. In most cases, it's harder to catch students' attention and keep their attention. This article will discuss some highschool informational essay samples and how to write a great essay.First of all, a highschool informational essay is all about instructional material. This means that in order to write an informative essay, you need to take the time to understand your audience. For example, do you work with students who are intellectually curious, or do you work with those who simply want to pass the test? Do you work with students who are creative or are you mostly looking for writing skills? Do you look for students who have problem solving ability, or are you looking for students who are academically good? You need to look at what type of student you're going to be working with when it comes to highschool informational essays. Most of the time, you will find yourself d ealing with creative students who are more interested in knowing how to do things on their own, or you may find yourself dealing with academically poor students who are looking for intellectual stimulation. As an example, I've seen students in high school with little English and very little writing skill, and high school instruction with 'individualized learning.' As long as you can make a connection between the instructional material and the student's academic needs, you should be able to write an informative essay.Another thing to keep in mind is that informational essays are often harder to write than college papers. In other words, most students are looking for something that has to do with the content of the essay. This means that it's really important to make sure that you can convince the reader that your information is relevant to the topic of the essay. For example, in high school instruction, students might need a short essay that explains why they're bored at school. If y ou can't point out to them that it's because of the reading, and not because of the homework, you'll have a hard time convincing them.A final note on informational essays: they can be one of the hardest types of essays to write, since there are many different kinds of topics. You can see a lot of different topics on informational essays, such as politics, religion, sociology, anthropology, science, and history. You may even find yourself writing on several different topics at once. If you're writing on three different topics, this can become a difficult task. Luckily, there are plenty of informational essay samples to help you get started. One of the easiest ways to learn how to write an informational essay is to look at a highschool informational essay sample. These essays are usually written by experts who have already written a lot of informational essays. In addition, they can be very easy to follow and have examples that you can use to check your work. For example, most informat ional essays come with step-by-step examples. You can use these examples to get your bearings and make sure that you're writing about the right subject matter. The best place to find highschool informational essay samples is an online course that teaches the basics. They usually offer a website where you can get help with your essay. Alternatively, you can look for a book at a bookstore. Theoretical and Methodological Problems Associated With...

What different kinds of â€Å"effects† can the media have, and what are the theoretical and methodological problems associated with viewing media in terms of effects? Discuss in relevance to research. ‘One of the first and most important assumptions of the study of mass communication has been the presumption that media and their content have significant and substantial effects’ (Perse, E.M. 2001: 3). The topical debate and concerns of ‘media effects’ has had a long history. ‘Mass communication could become the basis for people’s view of the world’ (Lippman, 1922)4. This quote demonstrates that in the early 1900s scholars were concerned with media’s dominant ability to influence audiences. As new mediums have come into play, opinions on the†¦show more content†¦The Frankfurt School was formed in around the 1920’s in Germany, which collectively involved scholars such as Adorno, Marcuse and Horkheimer. These scholars coined the term ‘mass culture’ and/or ‘culture industry’, which described media as creating a social dominance and a great influence on audiences3. This work was influenced by and linked to Karl Marx’s alienation theory whereby workers in industry lose any sense of individuality or control over their working lives and therefore workers become autonomous, as a result of capitalism. This loss of individuality is linked to the decline in privatisation whereby individuals become overly dependent on mass organisations such as the mass media. They came up with concept ‘hypodermic needle model’ of media effects. This was a model that implied that messages from the mass media were directly injected into the passive receivers and these people accepted the messages. This may be a theoretical problem as they assumed that the audience were wholly passive and fully believed the mass media’s ideas. But not all members of the audience are passive. A great early example of this is Orson Welle’s radio adaptation of the ‘War of the Worlds’ in 1938 (a science fiction book), six million listened to the CBS broadcast. Welle’s adaptation sounded like it was a news broadcast which caused the audience to panic, many to flee their homes and few numbers to commit suicide, as they had interpreted the radio adaptation as a real newsShow MoreRelatedAdvantages and Disadvantages of Electronic Media5672 Words   |  23 Pagesdetrimental effects for both the short run and long run is elaborated. The Vark free essay sample

For example you may have two strong preferences Visual and Aural (VA) or Read/write and Kinesthetic (RK), or you may have three strong preferences such as VAR or ARK. Some people have no standout scores. Their scores are almost even for all four modes. For example one person had scores of V=6, A=6, R=6, and K=6. She said that she adapted to the mode being used or requested for her learning. If the teacher, trainer or supervisor preferred a written mode she switched into Read/write for her responses and for her learning. So multiple preferences give you choices of two or three or four modes to use for your learning and for your interaction with others. Positive reactions mean that those with multimodal preferences choose to match or align their mode to the significant others around them. But, some people have admitted that if they want to be annoying they may stay in a mode different from the person with whom they are working. You will need to read two or three or four lists of strategies provided in the VARK Helpsheets. If you have two almost equal preferences please read the study strategies that apply to both preferences. If you have three preferences read the three lists that apply and similarly for those with four. There is obviously no  Multimodal  helpsheet. One interesting piece of information that people with multimodal preferences have told us, is that it is often necessary for them to use more than one strategy for learning and communicating. They feel insecure with only one. Alternatively those with a single preference often  get it  by using the set of strategies that align with that single preference. We are also noticing some differences among those who are multimodal and who have chosen fewer than 25 options and those who have chosen more than 30. Those who have chosen fewer than 25 of the options in the questionnaire prefer to see their highest score as their main preference almost like a single preference and they use each preference mode singly to suit each situation. Those who have a total VARK score larger than 30 tend to use their preferences in combination needing all their preferred modes to get a good understanding. Jimi Hendrix Essays (871 words) - , Term Papers

Jimi Hendrix Jimi Hendrix, the greatest guitarist in rock history, revolutionized the sound of rock. In 1967, the Jimi Hendrix Experience rocked the nation with their first album, Are You Experienced?. Hendrix's life was cut short by the tragedy of drugs in 1970, when he was only twenty seven years old. In these three years the sound of rock changed greatly, and Hendrix's guitar playing was a major influence. Jimi was born in Seattle, Washington on November 27, 1942. As a young boy, whenever the chance came, Jimi would try to play along with his R & B records. However, music was not his life long dream. At first, the army was. In the late 1950's, Hendrix enlisted in the 101st Airborne Division. After sustaining a back injury during a jump, he received a medical discharge. After his army career came to an abrupt end, he decided to go into the music field. By this time he had become an accomplished guitarist, and was soon to become known as the greatest guitarist ever (Stambler, pg. 290). However, he did not start out at the top. Jimi started out playing as part of the back-up for small time R & B groups. It did not take long before his work was in demand with some of the best known artists in the field, such as B.B. King, Ike and Tina Turner, Solomon Burke, Jackie Wilson, Littler Richard, Wilson Pickett, and King Curtis (Clifford, pg. 181). Using the name Jimmy James, he toured with a bunch of R & B shows, including six months as a member of James Brown's Famous Flames (Stambler, pg. 290). At the Cafe Wha! in New York, in 1966, Hendrix decided to try singing. Jimi lucked out when a man by the name of Charles "Chas" Chandler from Eric Burdon's Animals heard him at the club and thought he was sensational. When Chas heard him again later that year, he talked Jimi into moving to England where he would really get the chance to start his career (Stambler, pg. 290). Along with Chas, Hendrix auditioned some musicians to complete the new Hendrix group. They choose Mitch Mitchell, a fantastic drummer, and Noel Redding, one of England's best guitar and bass players (Stambler, pg. 290). In 1966, at the Olympia in Paris, the Experience debuted. One year later, the Experience was breaking attendance records right and left at European clubs. When the Monkees toured England in 1967, they heard Jimi and liked him. The Monkees asked Hendrix to join them on their tour through the U.S., and Jimi was on his way home (Stambler, pg. 290). "Jimi's erotic stage actions, suggestive lyrics, and guitar- smashing antics..." did not go over well with the Monkees' fans or many adults. Being criticized over and over again forced the Experience to be dropped from the tour (Stambler, pg. 290). This however did not get Hendrix down. By the end of the year, the group was invited to the Monterey Pop Festival. Jimi won a standing ovation for the "...nerve-shattering sounds from the group's nine amplifiers and eighteen speakers, topped by Jimi dousing his guitar with lighter fluid and burning it..." (Stambler, pg. 291). Hendrix became popular overnight, and his shows became standing room only. His stage acts were so wild, Time magazine described it as: "He hopped, twisted and rolled over sideways without missing a twang or a moan. He slung the guitar low over swiveling hips, or raised it to pick the strings with his teeth; he thrust it between his legs and did a bump and grind, crooning: 'oh, baby, come on now, sock it to me.'...For a symbolic finish, he lifted the guitar and flung it against the amplifiers." Time (April 25, 1968). His specialty became the way he used feedback, which up until now was an undesired sound. Using his guitar and the feedback it created, he was able to generate sounds which were used to his advantage in creating his unique style. This style is copied today by modern rock artists; however, this style is duplicated today with the use of special equipment, such as synthesizers. Are You Experienced?, Electric Ladyland, Axis: Bold as Love, and Smash Hits were all platinum albums. For the year of 1968, Billboard named him Artist of the Year; and in August he played a heart-stopping performance of the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock. His fame did not last forever though. In 1969, the Experience broke-up. However, Hendrix claimed it was not forever, but was just a chance for the members to develop their musical abilities. Then Jimi's drug addiction became worse. In

Free Essays on Hemingway-An unparalleled creative flurry

One of the foremost authors of the era between the two world wars, Hemingway in his early works depicted the lives of two types of people. One type consisted of men and women deprived, by World War I, of faith in the moral values in which they had believed, and who lived with cynical disregard for anything but their own emotional needs. The other type were men of simple character and primitive emotions, such as prizefighters and bullfighters. Hemingway wrote of their courageous and usually futile battles against circumstances. His earliest works include the collections of short stories Three Stories and Ten Poems (1923), his first work; In Our Time (1924), tales reflecting his experiences as a youth in the northern Michigan woods; Men Without Women (1927), a volume that includedAfter graduating from high school in 1917, he became a reporter for the Kansas City Star, but he left his job within a few months to serve as a volunteer ambulance driver in Italy during World War I (19! 14-1918). Procedures in Collecting Forensic Evidence Essay

Procedures in Collecting Forensic Evidence - Essay Example The auditor would first check the design of the system and if he is satisfied with the design then he goes on checking the operation of the internal control system. The auditor must make inquiry of the management of the reasons for which the pervious auditor withdraws from the assignment. Management should be inquired as to the facts of not allowing the current auditor contacting the previous auditor. There are certain chances of irregularity in the financial statement or the withdrawal of the auditor may also indicate fraud. The auditor use both statistical techniques and non-statistical technique to select sample from any given population. When using the non-statistical sampling auditor uses his professional judgment to select the sample. The purpose of this type of sampling is to achieve satisfactory basis for the auditor to draw conclusion about the population. It is essential for the auditor to select a sample that represents population to avoid bias. The most common methods of sample selection are described below; In this type of sampling population is divided by a sample size to obtain s sampling interval. For example the auditor may select every 25th item from the population. The auditor should be careful if the population units are not structured in that way that the sample population represents a particular pattern (Pickett, 2006). This is the sampling technique in which the auditor selects a sample without following any structured techniques. With the use of this sampling the auditor avoid any biased selection, but it has no basis to justify the reason for which any particular item was selected. This sampling method is not appropriate when statistical sampling is used. In this method the auditor selects samples of contiguous items from the population. This type of sampling is not normally used in audit because the population is structured. It is only effective in

We Would All Eventually Develop Cancer If We Lived Long Enough Essay

We Would All Eventually Develop Cancer If We Lived Long Enough - Essay Example The other causes are genetic predisposition inherited from families and medical factors such as certain viruses linked to cancer including human papillomavirus, which causes cervical cancer, hepatitis B and C and which cause liver cancer (7). Based on what cancer is and its causative agents, this paper tackles the questions of whether or not everybody will eventually get cancer at some point in their lives. With supportive evidence from scientific cancer studies, this paper takes a stance not everyone eventually gets cancer, including those who live long lives. Incidence rates for all types of cancers have increased for all age groups in Great Britain since the mid-1970s. However, the largest increase has been in the 75+ age bracket. The rise has been smaller in the other age groups with the 25-49 registering the smallest increases of 31% between 1975 and 1977 and 2009 and 2011. Although many factors cause cancer, people should not be misled that everyone will get cancer. Not everyone does. The interactions of factors of cancer make the basis of this discussion. The first factor is risky behaviour, by which people indulge in dangerous behaviours that predispose them to cancer or increase their cancer risks (6). These behaviours include smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol, bad or an unhealthy diet (10). In other words, people who take better care of themselves compared to their more careless counterparts are not likely to get cancer, regardless of how long they live since the type of lifestyle a person lives has real and far-reaching consequences on their propensity to get cancer. The table below shows the observed and projected lifetime risks of contracting or being diagnosed with all types of cancers in the UK. Paradoxically, whereas some people take good care of their lives really well and still get cancer others who seem not to care at all and never get cancer.   Â
